Plow & Hearth, LLC, a leader in the catalog industry, is seeking an experienced Catalog Photographer at our Corporate Office in Madison, Virginia. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in digital photography and experience working in a corporate environment. Your portfolio should be strong in both home and garden furnishings and children's editorial photography. You should be able to work under tight deadlines without sacrificing quality. The shooting assignments are a blend of studio and location work (both indoors and out), so be prepared to perform at your best under these circumstances.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following:
Provide photography for multi-channel marketing initiatives, including, but not limited to catalogs, internet, retail and other collateral pieces.

Produce quality images by photographing merchandise and/or people in the studio and/or on location.
Operate digital photography equipment, including computers, cameras and studio lighting.
Translate production requirements and layouts into final image.
Perform minor retouching and image adjustments after shoots.
Upload images to color separators for image processing.
Attend product turnover meetings, as needed.
Maintain accurate and detailed records of daily production.
Adhere to schedules, deadlines and budgets.
Work with Art Directors and Merchants on in-season photography.
Keep photo studio and equipment clean and organized.
Maintain and update image archives.
Continually evaluate and improve on processes.
Stay abreast of changes in technology, striving to improve quality.
Requires overnight travel and extended hours, as needed.

Qualifications:
The requirements listed below represent the minimum knowledge, skill, and/or ability required, to perform job function:
4 year degree in photography, a related field or equivalent work experience.
2+ years experience in the catalog industry preferred.
5+ years of total work experience in the field of photography, particularly in product photography and large-scale photo shoots, both in studio and on location.
Solid portfolio showing broad range of catalog style photography, demonstrating artistic talent and technical skill.
Demonstrated ability to guide and direct models, including children.
Advanced knowledge of: digital photography systems; Macintosh computer systems, including server based workflow; Photoshop and other related graphics programs.
Basic knowledge of color management.
Basic level of experience in other applications such as MS Word, Excel, Filemaker Pro, etc.
Basic knowledge of offset printing processes.
Excellent organization, communication and interpersonal skills with attention to detail, accuracy, and schedules.
Ability to prioritize, multi-task and work well as a team player.
Perform well under pressure.
Ability and willingness to take on responsibilities and/or tasks not specifically assigned.

Duties and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following:
Oversee the production of catalogs, create catalog layouts
Review page layouts to insure well executed eye-flow
Work with Merchants on design objectives
Work with Production to ensure timely completion/distribution of proofs
Evaluate changes requested and determine action
Ensure that creative strategy as defined by the VP of Creative is executed satisfactorily
Involvement in the pagination process to ensure proper "pacing" and space allocation on key items
Manage process of developing concepts for new creative strategies
Manage cover development process
Oversee the photography process
- Art direct portion of the photography; oversees the rest
- Identify stylists to be used
- Identify and scouts locations
Work closely with Merchandisers to determine together goals and objectives for product presentation
Meet budgets set
Continually evaluate and improve on processes
Attend press checks or delegate to team member
Insure quality of work produced by the team (photography, color reproduction, design, etc)
Stay abreast of changes in technology which could advance our efforts, improve quality
Oversee color separation through printing process
Qualifications:

4 year degree in related field or equivalent work experience
3-5 years experience in the catalog industry
15 years of work experience in graphic design
7+ years experience in web offset or rotogravure printing
Experience in managing production of the graphic arts, magazine or catalogs
Knowledge of Macintosh platform with basic understanding of a multi use network and the ability to navigate through that network with little or no difficulty
Advanced proficiency in the use of QuarkXPress,
Knowledge of Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and other graphics programs
Basics level of experience in other Mac applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.
Ability to work well as a team player but demonstrates skills as a leader
Work well under pressure
Demonstrated talent and skill in the design of print material (portfolio review)
